Kanata's Castle Podcast presents the Pathways to The Last Jedi series.“It's something... elsewhere. Elusive.” Obi-Wan Kenobi. The Negotiator. Ben. A crazy old wizard. A hermit. And yet, he was so much more.
A friend, a father figure, a brother, a mentor, and most importantly, a guardian. A great protector from afar and still, he followed through until the end. Never giving up on the Force and trusting it fully that eventually, all will be set right.

Finn and Phasma, both were raised to do one thing.
Finn or FN-2187 was trained from birth to serve the First Order as a Stormtrooper. To follow direct orders and never to ask questions. But, the moment he went from simulation drills to the Real Deal on Jakku, something inside him awoke. Humane conscience.
Phasma, like Finn, serves the First Order, but not from birth. But from a deep drive to do the one thing that makes her the ultimate Stormtrooper of the First Order, Survive! In her mind, a real Stormtrooper has no room for sentiment. A real Stormtrooper is the extension of the First Order and nothing less.
Finn and Phasma were raised to do one thing, but how are they a pathway to The Last Jedi? Will their actions in The Last Jedi affect the outcome of the Resistance and the First Order?

'Looking For Leia' is a documentary film that explores the Star Wars Phenomenon from the perspective of women and girls who connect to the galaxy, far, far away. Creator and director, Annalise Ophelian, is on a film adventure, scouring the country for personal experiences from all generations of women, cultures, and all across-the-board. In other words, her campaign isn't just important to today's generation of Star Wars fans, but even more so inspiring to tomorrow's Leia.
Snoke, the man behind the curtain. The Hologram. Who is he? He's a mystery, an enigma. And he prides himself on being Kylo Ren's sculptor. Snoke is indeed powerful. So powerful in the dark side of the Force that he managed to seduce the heir to the Jedi, Ben Solo, now known as Kylo Ren into leaving his Jedi path behind and becoming his apprentice.
But why Ben, Leia's son? What is it that Snoke knows? And, how well does he know the Skywalker legacy? The Force is strong in their family, each of them has equal potential for good or evil. But how did he know this? Who was he before he took on the alias of Snoke? Is it even an alias?
Leia knew that Snoke could have a strong influence on her son, and so, it was her responsibility to keep Ben away from the darkness. Unfortunately, the shadow doused the light and Ben became Kylo Ren.

Maz Kanata is more than a thousand years old. As wise as she is old, but don't judge her by her size. Her experience and knowledge make up for her pint-size crude matter. Said experience is what has helped her survive the underworld and as long as she has.
Throughout the generations, she has seen galactic powers rise and fall and felt the Force come and go in her continuous search to find the balance between the dark and the light side of the Force.
From her castle on Takodana, she has given more than her fair share in ways of opportunities to weary and even, the illicit travelers. She has also helped an old friend or two find their way, guiding them down the right path.
Yes, Maz Kanata will help lead us down the pathway to 'The Last Jedi.'

Sometimes, love isn't enough.
Anakin and Padmé were star-crossed lovers. Doomed from the start. And yet, their love created something that the galaxy needed. It's ironic. The galaxy that made their love impossible to be out in the open needed their love more than they knew.
Hope.
The Force chose Anakin, but it also chose Padmé.
The Force knows courage, selflessness and it knows hope.
And Padmé's most endearing act was giving her life for her children's safety.
Padmé Amidala Skywalker.
A symbol of Hope.
A Force of Destiny that will lead us on the 'Pathway to the Last Jedi.'

Throughout the generations, the Skywalker name has become iconic and legendary. Besides Darth Vader, the former Jedi Knight known as Anakin Skywalker, Luke and Leia have become household names. Whether you're a Star Wars fan or not, you know who they are. You know the name Skywalker and of the iconic twins that carry on that name. Iconic, legendary, and yet, mythical. The Skywalker twins are the best parts of something that went wrong. But when together, they make the wrong right again. After all, Master Yoda once said:
"Hidden, safe, the children must be kept. Foundation of the new Jedi Order, they will be. When right is the time for skills to be taught, to us the living Force will bring them. Until then, wait we will, and watch, and learn."

Throughout each trilogy, we see the same family undergo the inevitable cost of changes and choice. In each trilogy, it is someone new, but yet the name remains the same. Skywalker.
Change, choice, and cost seem to follow them throughout the generations. So much so, that the "cost" is theirs to bear. It's like the shadow that sticks to the soles of your shoe. It's an extension of who they are. After all, Luke once told Leia, "We all have that. The brightest light casts the darkest shadow."

In Star Wars, characters come and go. But some, some leave a lasting impression on us. And those few are the ones that not only enhance the characters around them but the story as well. Characters like Ahsoka Tano, the padawan that lived.
Who she is and what she believes and then add that with her unorthodox training by her former master, Anakin Skywalker, makes her into one powerful Force user. And though she is no Jedi, the Force flows through her. Powerful. Spiritually pure, matching the white beams of light that illuminate her lightsabers. Brave and compassionate and a Force to be reckoned with, Ahsoka Tano has inspired us all.

"The Chosen One" is the one chosen by a higher power to save us all. A Hero: the one that must undergo a series of risks, forced into unfavourable choices, and faced with enormous stakes.
As a child, he made a choice to leave the only family and life he had ever known because he was simply too afraid to stay a slave in the only life he ever knew. Every choice has its price, a cost. Loss. Perhaps the Force understood this. After all, the Force chose him to choose. Well, from a certain point of view, of course.

In "The Empire Strikes Back," Yoda says to Kenobi, “No. There is another.” This brief moment has always resonated because it shows that all along, Yoda has always had a "B Plan" in place in case Luke followed in Daddy's footsteps. There is another Skywalker. Leia.
Remember, according to Yoda, Luke was reckless. Always daydreaming; looking away to the future and never had his mind on what he was doing or where he was. So, I wonder, was Yoda watching Leia all this time too? Watching her become a strong leader. Smart with the ability to strategize and make tough choices during a crisis.
Thinking of the tie-in with "Rogue One" to "A New Hope," Leia succeeded in bringing Hope (the Death Star plans to the Alliance). Perhaps Yoda was thinking: Leia should've been Plan A? Or, was he saving the best for last?

Kanata's Castle is pleased to present, Episode V: Rey Strikes Back!
Since the beginning, Star Wars has always been about family. We've watched a young Luke grow from the guidance of his Aunt Beru and Uncle Owen, and face the trials, and tribulations from his biological father's troubled past. We've followed his Hero's Journey. And we were with him when he accepted his father's path towards the dark side as his own and did the unexpected by bringing his father, Anakin Skywalker, back to the light side of the Force.
Luke, Anakin, and many other Star Wars characters have had a family influence during their life's journey. It is those relationships and influences that will be our main topic for today. After all, a mother's love is a powerful gift, from a certain point of view.

They say, “third time’s a charm,” right? Well, let’s hope that’s true because Becca and Devon are back for their third episode, and this time, it’s all about those meddling Skywalkers and that “Hokey Religion.” The Force.
The Force, per Obi-Wan, is “an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us, penetrates us, and binds the galaxy together."
According to Star Wars lore and history, the Force was a mystical energy field that connected all living things in the galaxy. The power of the Force or the belief in it i.e. “Church of the Force” could be practiced by anyone who was sensitive to it or at the very least, open to it. It's a power that was tapped through the midi-chlorians, which according to Qui-Gon resided in all living things. The Force had many aliases or factions. For example, the Lasats, called it the Ashla, and described it as "the spirit of the galaxy.” The Force is said to be a concept that existed for well over 25,000 years via Wikipedia.
Now, all that said, how does this apply to the Skywalker family?
